The “Small Change 50th Anniversary Colored Edition” LP by Tom Waits is being released on Anti- and brings the 1976 album back into focus with a new colored vinyl edition to mark the anniversary.

Tom Waits' 1976 album Small Change is a masterpiece of whiskey-soaked, late-night beat poetry, jazz, and vaudeville sleaze.

The album feels like a dimly lit, smoke-filled bar at 3:00 AM. It focuses on urban decay, hard drinking, lonely drifters, and down-on-their-luck characters.

Tom Waits adopts a deeper, gravelly, broken-beaned delivery heavily influenced by Louis Armstrong. Backed by a tight jazz trio featuring drummer Shelly Manne, bassist Jim Hughart, and saxophonist Lew Tabackin, plus occasional string arrangements.
