Plaatbarak #5 - Nicoleson & Pleinvrees meets King Kitsch

Plaatbarak #5

19 July 2019

So, tonight it's round five of the Music Mania curated DJ sets at Monterey (Citadelpark, next to the Kiosk). Up this week are Nicoleson & Pleinvrees meets King Kitsch we did a little interview with these three gents and you can read it right here!

Plaatbarak deejay #1: Nicoleson

1) What new record you recently bought blew you away?

ROB (Funky Rob Way) By Rob. The title track on this one is pure fire!

 2) Which record is intertwined inseparably with Music Mania for you?

Without a doubt Degenerate by Vex’d. Soul (Mc Soul organised the weekly steam parties in Decadance in those days) gave me this record in 2005 and told me to give it a try. This was something different than all the Drum & Bass I was buying then! Still play this record from time to time.

3) Let’s go back into time. The annual holidays with your parents, a long and warm drive to the South of France. Which tape or cd was on repeat for hours in the car?

None, we (or better my mum and dad) would listen to the radio.

4) Sunday morning, breakfast & coffee: what would be the first record you put the needle on?

Sunday mornings have their own soundtrack, including Wallflower by Jordan Rakei.

5) You, a record player and a room full of music connoisseurs: which record do you put on?

7) What record is still missing from the shelves of your collection?

Dude26 - KEATS 03:Lindenau on Daliy concept/HHV. The KEATS releases is an uplifting concept by HHV and the records are always pressed in very limited numbers.

8) Which record stands out for its remarkable artwork?

All the Martyn releases have stunning artwork by Erosie. The Ross From Friends release Family Portrait on brain feeder is a recent eyecatcher.

9) What record will be the highlight of your set at Monterey? And why?

My set does not revolve around one highlight, but one of the highlights will be Past, Present and Future by Demon Fuzz. It’s rough, funky and has a genius buildup.

8) Which record stands out for its remarkable artwork?

Green Caterpillar - Masaru Imada Trio

9) What record will be the highlight of your set at Monterey? And why?

Bells Of Kyoto - Asho II

It's a rather obscure swiss jazz-fusion record from the 80's. For me it's the perfect synthesis between synth-pop and jazz. With an oriental flavour on top. Let's call it oriental synth-jazz.
