Description

Echo Beatty returns to the scene with her new EP ‘Ode To The Attempt’. Under this moniker, Annelies Van Dinter deals in spellbinding songs that breathe an undeniable urgency. After the separation from her partner in life and music for 8 years, with whom she made two albums and toured Europe several times, Van Dinter took an introspective deepdive.

“I’ve made friends with the dark, moving sideways with time”, she sings in the title track. Discovering new rooms in her inner self and the outer world, this EP is her hard-won mark of a new chapter. Echo Beatty embraces her own vulnerability and drops all the veils with these four new songs that revel in a moving honesty. In ‘All In Vain’ and ‘High On A Memory’ her vocals sound word-in-the-ear intimate. ‘Reclaim My Time’ is an invitation to dance onyour own ashes, while its ending reminds you of the powerful catharsis that Echo Beatty’s music can be. The title track ‘Ode To The Attempt’ covers the load of her revelations on heartbreak and failures, where right and wrong can perfectly co-exist.

The idea for releasing an EP came to life after feeling the urge to send ‘High On A Memory’ out in the world. She recorded the song at Bram Vanparys’ (The Bony King Of Nowhere) home-studio, testing his gear and later performed it in a special live-set at Boomtown Festival 2018 (Gentse Feesten) with string-arrangements by composer Patricia Vanneste (ex-Balthazar, Hydrogen Sea). A trip to NYC in February was the kick-start for Van Dinter to finish some of the new material she had been working on in the past two years. In July she recorded three new tracks with Koen Gisen in his Studio La Patrie in Ghent, where she invited musician friends Mirko Banovic (Arno) on bass, Louis Evrard (Ottla, Robbing Millions,Yokaï) on drums and Trui Amerlinck (Tsar B) for some final touches on cello. The results are four enchanting songs where shimmering intensity and a warm softness meet.
