Description

The Love Substitutes brought together former dEUS guitarists Rudy Trouvé, Craig Ward and Mauro Pawlowski, alongside Bert Lenaerts, for a gloriously chaotic debut. Recorded in just a day and a half, 2004's Meet The Love Substitutes While The House Is On Fire veers between abrasive guitar noise, primitive riffs, sprawling improvisations and psychedelic detours. Beneath the mayhem are some surprisingly lovely pop songs, including 'Death Folk Sailor', 'Open' and 'Shanty'. With three distinct vocalists and no obvious leader, it's a wonderfully unpredictable snapshot of Antwerp's experimental underground.
