Description

Dexter Story, the versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer from Los Angeles, delivers a rich and adventurous album with 'T'som'. The title, which means 'fasting' in the Eritrean language Tigrinya, reflects the spiritual and introspective nature of the music. It is a layered record in which East African sounds, funk, and soul merge into a hypnotic whole. On this album, Story collaborates with an impressive array of guest musicians, including Sudan Archives and jazz veteran Dwight Trible. 'T'som' is a musical exploration that effortlessly bridges continents and genres.

The music is best described as a fusion of Ethio-jazz, Afro-funk, and spiritual jazz. The compositions combine the complex rhythms of the Horn of Africa with the warmth and soul of the Californian music scene.
