Los Angeles-based duo Rio Kosta, consisting of Mike Del Rio and Kosta Galanopoulos, released their debut album Unicorn. They have only been a band for a short time, but are already seen as a promise - one that they certainly keep with this album. They already have 500,000 monthly listeners on the streaming platforms. With their summery grooves, beautiful harmonies and Kosta's clear falsetto, their sound is reminiscent of popular artists such as Jungle, Parcels and Tame Impala.
What started as a one-off session between two multi-instrumentalists grew into a musical partnership full of chemistry and creativity. What Del Rio explains:
“The whole ethos of this project has been about friendship, endless creativity and eternal childhood. We hope that if anything, you can feel the level of bliss and love we had while making this album as a first step into the Rio Kosta universe. We appreciate each and every person hopping on the mothership. Phase one is upon us.”
They were inspired by artists such as Jorge Ben, Idris Muhammad, War, Ebo Taylor, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Beatles. The result is an album that features a mix of psychedelia, funk, old school R&B, disco and a touch of Americana.
