Description

(Ranking) Barnabas is one of the many unsung heroes of Jamaican dub. He worked at the legendary Channel One Studios, the hotspot of Jamaica's studio scene in the 1970s, on tracks including Eek-a-Mouse's classic "Wah Do Dem."

At night, he would grab the microphone and DJ to his own recorded riddims. Despite contributing to countless dub records, only "The Cold Crusher" was released under his name. Barnabas's sole LP was released in a limited US run, was never reissued, and became a highly sought-after rarity. The Italian reissue label JAMDUNG is now reissuing it after 50 years. Painstakingly restored by Dubplates & Mastering Berlin, it includes new, detailed liner notes by renowned reggae authors Helmut Philipps and David Katz (Lee Perry biographer), who are collaborating here for the first time. Stanley "Barnabas" Bryan did not live to see the reissue of his album. He passed away on August 18, 2025, at the age of 65, while working on this new edition, which unexpectedly became his musical legacy.
