Description

Saagara - 3 is an adventurous studio album released as an LP in 2024. The album is the result of a collaboration between Polish producer and multi-instrumentalist Wacław Zimpel and four master musicians from the South Indian Carnatic tradition. This ensemble consists of percussionists Giridhar Udupa (ghatam), Aggu Baba (khanjira), K Raja (thavil), and violinist Mysore N. Karthik. Their approach transcends musical boundaries and results in a unique interplay between contemporary electronic influences and traditional Indian rhythms. The album's genre can best be described as a blend of electronic jazz, Indo-prog, raga rock, and experimental folk. The music sounds retrofuturistic and interstellar, combining deep, swirling bass with trance-like rhythms that invite you to dance. The acoustic instruments are filtered through electronic layers, without losing sight of the original melodies and rhythmic patterns. This creates an energetic tension between tradition and modern production.
