Director Hans Herbots' six-part Panenka series airs on VRT1 from Sunday, October 26th, bringing together the greatest surrealist artists of the 1930s in a lush murder mystery full of humour, style, and suspense. Accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack written and performed by Justine Bourgeus (Tsar B) and composer Hannes De Maeyer.

Music... officially, it only comes at the end of the creative process, but in reality, it should be the beginning. Because what more defines the tone, the way you view a scene and how you feel the story? The musical voice of This Is Not a Murder Mystery emerged from a collaborative search with Hannes and Justine. Each brought their own world and influences, and after a fresh dive into the story, they found a delicate balance between drama, mystery, and comedy—exactly the tone our series needed. The result is a mature, layered, and guiding score with a touch of surrealism. A score that not only supports the identity of this wonderful series but completely shapes it.
