Description

Flemish band Kaat van Stralen will release their debut EP Vieze Vlinder on 21 November. The EP was recorded with producer Pieter-Jan Decraene at Studio Jupiter in Tongeren, who also took care of the mixing.

Kaat van Stralen broke through in Belgium after winning Studio Brussel’s De Nieuwe Lichting 2025 and with the single Stop Met Wenen, which immediately went viral. It is a punk rock anthem for all women, misfits and feelers. With influences such as Amyl & The Sniffers, Wet Leg and Fiona Apple – but deliciously in Flemish – Kaat proves her unique style and voice. The song breaks the taboo around crying and encourages people to show their emotions freely. What started as an original solo project (Kaat van Straelen) grew into a genre-transcending punk band, complemented by Melvin Slabbinck (drums), Anton Robberechts (guitar) and Faust De Vogelaere (bass), with a slight name change.

Vieze Vlinder is the debut EP on which she lets her voice be heard in six powerful songs as a young woman finding her way in a world that is often harsh and confusing. The EP is an uncompromising collection of the highest peaks and deepest valleys of young adulthood, presented raw and honest in a mix of fierce punk songs, rebellious pop and activist protest anthems. Kaats’ lyrics tackle themes such as self-image, sexual freedom, social expectations and the right to be angry, without resorting to clichés. She wraps her message in layered, abrasive songs that are as confrontational as they are infectious.
