'On the Romance of Being,' the second album by multidisciplinary, South African-based artist Desire Marea, turns music into a ceremony!

While Desire's eponymous solo debut (2020) was an introspective exploration of love and loss, drawing on a full range of electronic sounds, 'On The Romance Of Being' was recorded live with an ensemble of thirteen musicians (including the award-winning Sibusiso Mashiloane and Sbu Zondi, pioneers of the Durban/Johannesburg jazz scene). Their unification has yielded eight pieces whose sound ranges from post-gospel to spiritual jazz and the ancient music of the Nguni and Ndau peoples.
