The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett has remixed Nottingham’s Sleaford Mods, creating ‘The Prodigy Acid Thunder Remix’ of the duo’s ‘Elitist G.O.A.T’ featuring Aldous Harding.
The remix takes the track from the Mods’ recent Top 10 album The Demise Of Planet X into punchier, synth-filled territory, peppered with resentment but undercut, still, by Aldous Harding’s ethereal vocals. The lyricism pushes home a message of anger towards the vanity and arrogance rife today, with Howlett taking frontman Jason Williamson’s delivery into a vicious new context.
The two acts previously collaborated on the 2015 single ‘Ibiza’. Howlett said of the new remix: “It was good to get involved with the lads again – I wanted to hear Jason’s snarlin’ vocal on some dirty, acid 303 […] Along with Aldous Harding’s great vocal, which comes at a different angle to the original tune. Acid Thunder, baby!”
A second rework also arrives alongside it: Andrew Fearn, the Mods’ other half, has produced a Broken Prayer Mix under his Extnddntwrk alias. Williamson was characteristically direct about his reaction: “Who could ask for more? A Prodigy remix for ‘Elitist G.O.A.T’ that turns it into another tune entirely. Added to that is Extnddntwrk’s under the sensor shift as well. Fuckin’ yes!”
