Hooverphonic will represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam with the song The Wrong Place.

The Wrong Place werd geschreven door Alex Callier en de Waalse Charlotte Foret (Charles), die hij opmerkte door haar indie successingle ‘Wasted Time’. Alex Callier over de song: “Tijdens een schrijfsessie met Charlotte hoorden we Johnny Cash op de radio. Al lachend gaven we onszelf de uitdaging om in de song een stukje tekst over Johnny Cash te zetten. Dat resulteerde in ‘Don’t you ever dare to wear my Johnny Cash T-shirt’. De rest van de song is rond die lyric geschreven.” De tekst is geïnspireerd door Lee Hazlewood, de schrijver van ‘These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ van Nancy Sinatra, en talloze andere classics. Het vleugje sarcasme, de nodige humor en de uitgesproken attitude zijn daar het resultaat van.
