Shogun Assassin hit grindhouse theaters in 1980 and is a martial arts mix of Eastern and Western cultures. The soundtrack, composed by Mark Lindsay (former lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders) and W. Michael Lewis (of L.A. disco pioneers Rinder & Lewis), features Eastern melodies emerging from futuristic synthesizers and disco basslines, accompanied by an eerie child's voice from off-screen. The film's legendary cult status was cemented by GZA's extensive use of clips from the film on the classic 1995 album "Liquid Swords" (produced by RZA). Highly recommended for soundtrack fans, Wu-Tang lovers and Tarantino fans (who may remember the Shogun Assassin homage in Kill Bill Vol. 2).
