Type It Up is an EP by Matt Berninger that grew out of the momentum of the Get Sunk tour and brings together songs Berninger and his touring band had been developing onstage from 2025 through 2026.

The EP includes three new originals: “Martini Me Fatso,” “Type It Up” and “Ask for Water.” All three were worked out live during the tour, with titles, lyrics and arrangements changing along the way. “Type It Up” had previously been performed under the titles “Black Letter Font” and “Invisible Jerk,” while “Ask for Water” was also known for a time as “Kinder.”

They are joined by two covers that also became part of Berninger’s live and recording output: New Order’s “Blue Monday,” which he regularly performed on the Get Sunk tour, and The Velvet Underground’s “Who Loves the Sun,” recorded as a duet with Rosanne Cash for the series Sunny Nights.

In an interview with BBC Radio 6, Berninger described the EP as a bunch of “wild hair” ideas that formed organically while touring. Rather than overthinking them, the approach was to “make a bunch of noise and have fun,” which he called a “fun little bonus record.”

In a news release, he explained:

These songs came out of the momentum and energy of the Get Sunk tour. I was changing lyrics and forms night after night, and we were getting real time feedback from audiences and social media comments.
