Description

Music of Many Colours (1980) is a brilliant, electrifying collaboration album by Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and American jazz-funk vibraphone legend Roy Ayers.

It smoothly merges Ayers' lush, melodic jazz-funk style with Fela's massive, hypnotic polyrhythmic Afrobeat grooves and the vocal chorus of Fela’s wives.

Critics and fans view the album as a triumphant, natural cross-cultural fusion. While Fela’s work is usually intensely confrontational and political, the presence of Ayers injects a vibrant, soulful, and playful nocturnal energy without losing the underlying message of Pan-African liberation. It remains a rare and treasured gem in both artists' massive discographies.
