Drummer, singer, songwriter, frontwoman, bandleader... few artists possess the talent to be versatile at a high level with a distinct personal signature. For over 10 years, Isolde Lasoen has been the queen of a universe where pop music takes on the allure of cinema and melancholy sparkles. With her third solo album ‘My Kind of Drama’ (released on 28/08), she adds a layer of glitter to a top-notch record where baroque pop, retro-futuristic synths, and French touch come together.
After Isolde took her first steps as a solo artist with EP L’Inconnu (2014) and debut album Cartes Postales (2017), her second album Oh Dear (2023) definitively placed her on the musical world map. Fantastic singles like Douce Mélancolie, Something French, and Bed & Breakfast garnered plenty of airplay both at home and abroad (Radio 1, BBC, FIP, KCRW, ...), and the icing on the cake was a spot on the compilation album by influential British music connoisseur Somewhere Soul.
Where 'Oh Dear' enriched her cinematic sound with influences from vintage soundtracks, psychedelia, the French seventies, and even prog rock, ‘My Kind of Drama’ shifts further towards electronics and her love for the French touch shines through more emphatically: more synths, unexpected chord progressions, and a modern, glossy production, while everything remains poppy, melancholic, cool, and arty. Eclectic chic meets ciné-pop.
‘My Kind of Drama’ is about self-knowledge, diving deeper into your past, and taking stock, and love is not lacking either. It is an album that celebrates emotion in all its nuances. An album on which Isolde unashamedly gives herself all the space to be dramatic, as a queen in her own musical universe.
