Description

Bob Dylan’s third studio album, The Times They Are a-Changin' (released January 13, 1964), stands as a stark, unyielding landmark of political folk music and the definitive zenith of his early protest era.

Produced by Tom Wilson, this record marks a major milestone in Dylan's career as his very first collection comprised entirely of original compositions. Gone is the youthful levity, traditional cover songs, and whimsical charm found on his previous records. Instead, Dylan strips his sound down to a somber, acoustic minimum—just his raw vocal delivery, acoustic guitar, and wailing harmonica. The mood is heavy, monochromatic, and relentlessly serious, dealing face-to-face with systemic racism, grinding poverty, and the looming threat of historical violence.
