Description

Cocoon is a posthumous album by the legendary American alternative rock band Morphine, featuring eight previously unreleased recordings from the 1998-1999 period.

The songs were originally recorded with frontman Mark Sandman and, after remaining in the archives for years, have been remixed by producer Paul Q. Kolderie. Additionally, Dana Colley added new saxophone parts to three tracks. The album will be released on LP on December 4, 2026.

With Sandman's distinctive deep voice and two-string slide bass, Colley's baritone and tenor saxophone, and the stripped-down drums, Cocoon features the typical dark, intimate, and sultry Morphine sound, in which rock, blues, and jazz come together. At the same time, the album reveals a more adventurous side of the band, featuring piano and acoustic guitar, among other instruments. As a result, Cocoon is not a collection of demos or outtakes, but a full-fledged new chapter in Morphine's legacy.
