Trumpeter and jazz innovator Don Cherry is known for his groundbreaking work, but Home Boy, Sister Out from 1985 is a unique chapter in his discography. Recorded in Paris with producer Ramuntcho Matta, Cherry dives wholeheartedly into the experimental music scene of the eighties. The album is an adventurous mix of styles in which his recognizable trumpet sound explores new contexts. The record combines the freedom of jazz with the energy of the street.

Musically, this album moves far beyond the boundaries of traditional jazz. It is an eclectic collection of tracks with clear influences from post-punk, funk, hip hop, and world music. Songs like ‘Rappin' Recipe’ and ‘Reggae To The High Tower’ illustrate the broad musical scope that Cherry and his band display on this project.
