Description

Intensified Sounds collects the essential rocksteady singles released between 1967 and 1968 on the legendary Jamaican label Beverley's. Producer Leslie Kong played a key role in the transition from ska to the slower, more soulful rocksteady, a sound that conquered the island and the world. This compilation brings together the groundbreaking tracks from that short but influential period. The collection features iconic songs by artists such as Desmond Dekker & The Aces, The Maytals, and Derrick Morgan. It is a historical document that captures the birth of a new rhythm and the creative heyday of Jamaican music.

Musically, this compilation focuses entirely on Rocksteady, the direct precursor to reggae. The sound is characterized by a slower tempo than ska, with a greater emphasis on the bass line and harmonious vocals.
